The following patch replaces snprintf() in xtl-1.3/include/xtl with a
strstream, allowing output on machines tthat do not have snprintf() in the C
library.

It also cleans up text.h and objio.h a little, allowing compilation of the
codes in xtl-1.3/examples/tests with DEC cxx.
